Projects > Buccaneer Keyboard

Christened the Buccaneer, this is our take on a "steampunk keyboard" design - essentially a mechanical computer keyboard that has been modified to resemble an old world aesthetic.

Buccaneer #1 - A handcrafted computer keyboard.

The keyboard is comprised of a solid walnut frame (the wood recovered from a damaged antique dressing table) with brass plated sides and an engraved "Rampkins" nameplate at the front.

Buccaneer #2 - Brass keys and spacebar on display.

The brass keys protrude through separate holes in the genuine gold-tooled, desk leather faceplate.

Buccaneer #3 - Side view showing brass screws in a brass plate.

The right side of the keyboard sports another engraved brass plate, which can be removed to reveal two USB 2.0 ports.

Buccaneer #4 - Closeup of USB hand engraving. Buccaneer #5 - USB ports docked and in use.

Due to the large amount of brass and woodwork, the Buccaneer weighs in at 5 lbs, compared to the 3 lbs Das Keyboard it was built on.

Buccaneer #6 - The tooled burgundy desk leather clearly visible. Buccaneer #7 - Hand engraved Rampkins name plaque.

Emerald glass rhinestones cover the status lights, and glow red when in use.

Buccaneer #8 - The keyboard status lights make the vintage emerald glass rhinestones
shine red.
